In August of 2014, Tristan left for a 9 month missions trip to the island of Yap. Under the direction of Church of God missionaries Gary and Gwen Bistritan, Tristan helps the kindergarten children at the Church of God sponsored school learn to speak english so that they can proceed to the first grade.
Yap Island is but one of 607 islands that are part of the Federated States of Micronesia. The entire State of Yap, which includes the island of Yap and 14 outer islands is about 119 square miles, but the land area is only about 39 square miles. The recorded population in the year 2000 was 11,241. The climate is tropical with a record high of 96 and a a record low of 63.
Yap is located about 500 miles west Guam. Yap does not observe Daylight Savings Time and is located at GMT + 10 or 16 hours ahead of Central Standard Time.
