Is our immigration system really broken? Just a short 30 years ago (yes, I was around) the same claim was being made. So the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (also known as Simpson-Mazzoli Act) was signed in to law. We were told that this would fix immigration forever. In part, the law:
- required employers to verify immigration status
- made it illegal to knowingly hire or recruit illegals
- and legalized some illegal immigrants
Now we have to legalize another group of people who broke our law to get here and want to jump in front of immigrants who are following the law. Why? Why not enforce current law? By even suggesting this, we are encouraging people to risk their lives to get here. For some reason our government has chosen to leave our border open. Without controlled immigration, we have no way of knowing who is walking in to our country. Are they friendly? Are they criminals? Do they have an infectious disease? Can they support themselves?
Tea Party Patriots has produced a video about our southern border. They talk to law enforcement along the border. It is narrated by Nick Searcy of Justified fame. It is definitely worth watching.
